Transfer of gonococcal pharyngitis by kissing?

چکیده
The relationship to fellatio is shown in a report by Wiesner, Tronca, Bonin, Petersen, and Holmes (1973) from the U.S.A. in which the incidence in homosexual males was fourteen out of 143 (9-8 per cent.) compared with three out of 217 (1 4 per cent.) in heterosexual males. Also from the U.S.A., Owen and Hill (1972) reported finding pharyngeal gonorrhoea in eleven out of 79 (13 9 per cent.) homosexuals. The higher incidence in homosexual males and in women suggests that fellatio is more likely to transfer the organism than is cunnilingus. Br0-Jorgensen and Jensen (1971) could find no evidence of transfer by kissing in their cases, but suggested it as a possibility. Wiesner and others (1973) could find no pairs who had simultaneous pharyngeal infection as the only manifestation. This is a report of such an occurrence.

Primary syphilis in the oral cavity.
The apparent increase in oro-genital activity in both homosexual and heterosexual population groups has focused the physician's attention on a neglected part of the anatomy. As a result, gonococcal pharyngitis was rediscovered (Fiumara, 1971). With about three million people infected with gonorrhoea each year in the United States, it is understandable that there is no dearth of patients recogni...

In a prospective survey of 106 male homosexuals, investigations included smears and cultures of material taken from the tonsillar areas. A diagnosis of gonococcal pharyngitis was made in six cases. This is the largest series so far reported from England. The prevalence of gonorrhoea nd less conventional sexual practices must prompt us to investigate gonococcal infection in sites remote from the...

While a number of reports of cases of cutaneous gonorrhoea have been published, gonococcal manifestations in mucous membranes outside the genital tract and the conjunctivae seem to be very rare. Bronson (1919) collected twelve cases of gonococcal stomatitis from the literature. Only two of these cases were published later than the year 1909 when the differentiation between Neisseria species by ...

Although known to occur in the past, it is only in recent years that the incidence and importance of oral infection by the gonococcus has come to be assessed. The first case of gonococcal pharyngitis was described by Fiumara, Wise, and Many (1967). Thatcher, McCraney, Kellogg, and Whaley (1969) found no gonococci in the urethra and rectum in a routine screening by culture of 505 military subjec...
متن کاملGonococcal tonsillitis.
Few of the large numbers of patients exposed to gonococcal infection make spontaneous complaint to the venereologist of a sore throat, and it is therefore possible to overlook infection in this region. Fiumara, Wise, and Many (1967) reported a fully documented case of gonococcal tonsillitis and two probable cases of pharyngitis in homosexual males; and Thatcher, McCraney, Kellogg, and Whaley (1...
